Camps Bay

An extraordinary site, parallel to Camps Bay Drive, offering views of the Apostles to the east, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and Lion’s Head to the north. The site was narrow with a double-storey height restriction and had a small residence upon it, which was demolished. At the client’s request, the architect designed a Balinese home.

Accommodation included three bedrooms, each with an en-suite, dressing room, and private terrace.

Dark roof trusses were exposed above the triple-volume staircase. The contrast between light and dark was a theme throughout the house, with light walls contrasting with dark windows and doors; dark timber floors, decking, and stairs against the light marble floor; light kitchen counters against dark joinery below; and dark marble floors and niches against light marble walls in the bathrooms.

Earthy tones of timber, marble, sea grass, bamboo, copper, and brass were used extensively throughout the house. Subtle, dimmable, and concealed lighting further enhanced the spaces, creating a warm and inviting home with a dual function as both an entertainment venue and a private retreat for the client.
